Here's a Body Hack: Calm the F*** Down

As a kid I used to get really angry.  I had a short temper and would fly off the handle quickly.  I blame my Irish heritage.  We’re fighters, and that described me perfectly.  I would get pissed and hit things, or try to fight any other guy near me.

As I got older I started working out.  I thought the physical exertion would calm me down a little but I still lost my temper often. Almost every day.

I wasn’t getting angry for no reason, I was getting angry because my body wasn’t changing as fast as I wanted it to.  I was working out really hard but not seeing any positive change in my body.  I didn’t have a six pack after 2 weeks.  Shit was ridiculous.

How was I supposed to stay engaged and keep up with my fitness program?   I didn’t see the results I wanted RIGHT AWAY.  It was hard to focus.

I was young so I now forgive my temper.  I was lacking in a few things, like maturity and education.  I thought I wasn’t getting muscular right away because I didn’t have the right weights, the right supplements and the right gym clothes.  What I didn’t have were the two most important things.

They’re not a product, and they’re not a workout program.  You can't buy them.  You can't download them on to your phone.  Under Armour doesn't make them.

The ONLY two things you need to change your body are dedication and patience.

It’s easy to get caught up in fancy exercise equipment and clothes, but they are absolutely unnecessary.  You don’t even need a gym membership or weights to change your body.  You just need to be dedicated to the art of physical improvement.  You just need the patience to stay engaged even though results occur slowly.

Want to know a secret? You can get totally jacked by just doing push-ups and pull ups.  As long as you are dedicated to progress and patient enough to constantly work hard you will put on a significant amount of muscle.

You can lose a ton of weight by just walking or jogging around your block.  You just need the dedication to hit the road frequently and the patience to know that you won’t drop 2 dress sizes in one week.

I know some of you feel the same way I did.  You’re hitting the gym a couple times a week and eating good, wholesome food.  You’re body isn’t changing, though.  It’s amazingly frustrating, you either want to quit or hit something.

Don’t do either.  Learn to take a step back and take a deep breath.  You are not going to change your body overnight, but you can change your mindset.  You're see more results by nurturing dedication to the craft.

So here’s the best fitness advice I can give you.  Calm down.  It’s not going to happen overnight.  No matter what your goal is you’re doing to need to remain dedicated and stick it out through the tough times.  Take a deep breath and just go sweat.
